Hi there, I have been offered a job in Grand Cayman to start in late 2012 and would really appreciate some advice. My main objectives are to earn a much higher tax free salary than available in London, experience living on an island in the sun for a year or two and hopefully save some cash.
My main concern is that I am 27 and single, and worry that Cayman life is far more suited to couples and families.
It is anticipated that an updated version of the Cayman Islands’ CRS guidance notes will be released in the upcoming weeks.
It is being reported that the guidance notes are currently being reviewed by the Cayman Islands AEOI Working Group and will be posted on the CRS legislation page once amendments have been finalized.
Before living here, most of us didn’t drink at a bar with our friends six nights a week.
Most of us participated in hobbies and activities that we can’t or don’t pursue here.
They treat the island like it’s their fantasyland and do things they would never consider doing at home.
Roatan and the lifestyle here has a way of making you forget about regular things like, oh, you know, the consequences of your actions.
I fell in love with the place, which then was very laid back. The Caymanians were friendly and seemed to like the English." However, as time progressed, the island's expat population began to swell. This caused tension between the domestic population and foreign expat workers at a time when a growing number of native Caymanians were jobless. My only concern as mentioned before was that it is a very quiet, couples orientated place and that it's a big risk for a single 27 yo commiting to moving from a big city like London for 2 years - so it;s good to hear that I am likely to meet lots of people in a similar situation to me!The only other piece of advice I will offer is this: keep all your options open.Other than the fact that this part of my life is usually not very entertaining, it’s something I’ve always been hesitant to put out there for the world to see. And when I meet them, they can’t seem to help but ask me things like: Yep, and some end up divorced too.A lot of people come to my rock, Roatan, running away from “real life” and wherever they came from.KPMG's professionals combine technical, market and business skills that enable them to deliver objective advice and guidance that help our clients grow their businesses, improve performance and manage risk more effectively.By combining forces with many of the world’s leading services and technology providers, we are able to deliver comprehensive solutions that help our clients address their toughest business challenges.Member firms of the KPMG network of independent firms are affiliated with KPMG International.
